Stephen Donaldson is another of my absolute favorite writers. His Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever series was a fantastic journey with a main character you cannot forget. Stricken with leprosy, his life falling apart, he is transported to a world only he can save, yet who will save him? One of the most reluctant heroes ever, these books enthralled me. I even took the time to reread them later, that is how good they were.
His later series are also wonderful, and I would recommend anything this man writes! The Gap series is very thought provoking and deep, though dark and sometimes confusing.
